Controlling your content
With the sheer number of communication platforms (Medium, Substack, Clubhouse, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) you may be wondering what I wonder. Where is the best place to keep your content?
I hosted this blog on WordPress until just last year when I switched to Ghost. I may still go back to WordPress and that's a post for another day.
But, the difference I've found (and I've spoken to my friend Dru Riley about this quite a bit) is that those other platforms, or social networks are controlled by someone else. You can get kicked off, and if you were to ever get kicked off you lose all of your followers and all of your content.
I will always use an open-source platform for my blog.
If you're reading this and using a blog, or thinking about it. Just think about how you want to operate on the wide open Internet and what you want your relationship with your audience to be like.
